Challenge
NYU Abu Dhabi’s campus is open-to-public space located on Saadiyat Island. Due to the
Our brief was to “increase the NYUAD’s engagement with the outside space of the campus.”
Reflecting the "Campus Spirit"

A natural / spontaneous spaces create feeling of collectiveness and are needed on campus.
A temporary bike path, known as “Green Line” to students, were the space for them to have in-person engagement, destress, and take break from their school or digital presence.

Students use physical space as a medium to send message to each other.
Students from NYUAD voluntarily put inspirational quote "Never Back Down" on their dorm windows using sticky notes which created a large engagement among the campus.
Reflecting the UAE Culture

Initial Exploration
Initially, our team explored the potential mural on campus walls that share student-made arts and writings.
However, later we realized that murals and graffiti are not a part of Emirati culture in a larger scale.


New Approach
We drew inspiration from the common architecture decisions in the country that uses natural light and shadow.
We noticed that there are existing elements of campus structure that can be utilized for our purpose.
